The NCAA Final Four is leaving Detroit today, and in comes Jay Leno (on a break from Tonight Show tapings) to perform two nights of free shows at the nearby Palace of Auburn Hills, in the suburbs where the Detroit Pistons play. All of the free tickets have been snapped up for Leno's attempt to cheer up the people who live in the heart of the flailing auto industry. It's "Jay's Comedy Stimulus Plan." Get it? Today's Detroit News points out that Leno is only the eighth stand-up comedian to play The Palace. Can you guess the others? Probably not, because it's quite the assortment: Bill Cosby, Jackie Mason, Andrew "Dice" Clay, Rodney Dangerfield, George Carlin, Dane Cook, and Howie Mandel. The King of The Palace? Mandel has played six dates at the arena, because this is Howie Do It. Insert your own groan here.
